Alone in the world, Amanda Carville has no dowry, no reputation left, and no one who believes her to be innocent of murder, since she was found holding the gun that killed her stepfather. Viscount Rexford also has his troubles. He's scarred by war, and cursed--or blessed--with the family trait of knowing the truth when he hears it, and his success at extracting the truth from military prisoners has left many doubting his honor and his methods. When Amanda tells him she didn't do it, he believes her. Tired of the truth business, Rex refuses to get involved...until his heart leaves him no choice.

I was entertained by this story. While I wasn't laughing with tears streaming, I frequently had a laugh about every other page and I got a lot of chuckles from the tale. Now, if you haven't read a Metzger before, don't begin expecting a lot of plausibility. Just go with the flow and live in Metzger's world. Most of stories are a shade improbable ~ but they're fun!The premise was unusual and I liked it. I liked the storyline ~ I liked the characters ~ I enjoyed Inspector Dimm's brief appearances ~ and it was interesting.
I ration my Metzgers, I save them to read after I've just read a bad novel. Nothing gets me out of a reading slump faster than Barbara Metzger. She tells a good story and relies on good writing, rather than pages of clinical sex, to tell that story. What a concept!. Sure, she has her ups and downs but her "downs" beat most others out there. She has such great imagination.
Enjoy your reading! :)

Truly Yours edition by Barbara Metzger Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I enjoy a good "read" and my favorite genres are historicals, mysteries, and stories with characters who have special "powers". In this book there are all three elements so I really enjoyed it. Barbara Metzger is one of my favorite authors because her characters seem so real, with good points and bad points just like the rest of us. In this book, Ms. Metzger touches on the psychological wounds caused by war as well as the damage that a parent can unknowingly inflict on a child when trying to protect them. Ms. Metzger knows the regency period and shares it with the reader. I will enjoy reading this book again and again.
A romance surrounded by spies and suspence makes a very exciting story. It is a bit different from Metzger's usual storylines but done very well. I loved it.
Overly-convoluted plot for an overly-simple story. No real character development and too long. Truly not up to standards. Even the dog was one-dimensional.
Contrary to the very thoughtful reviews posted above, I have to say that I liked this book. I liked the characters, I liked the premise, and I stayed interested & was enterained all the way through. True, it's not as hilarious as Miss Lockharte's Letters, nor as moving as A Debt to Delia, but those are such excellent books that I don't expect any author to hit that level every time. Anybody who's read Metzger before knows she doesn't write sex manuals, and God knows there are enough of those out there already, so I don't feel that delayed consummation, etc. should be a consideration. In fact, I am damn tired of regencies that substitute graphic sexual athletics for character, setting and story. I would recommend Truly Yours as a good read, and it's going into my keeper box.
I am generally a fan of this author. I have read several of her books, and have truly enjoyed them. This one started out okay. I enjoyed the introduction and the premise of the plot. I just didn't feel it with the relationship between the characters. Yes, they were physically attracted to each other, but I didn't see much more base to the relationship. To be fair, I am not into steamy romances; I do not enjoy imagining someone else's bedroom scenes. In a recency I feel like it really takes away from the plot. For me all of the time spent thinking about what they "wanted' to do distracted from creating a plot with depth. Meh. I wish I had enjoyed it more than i did.
Thrown together from the beginning, it's love at first site for Lord Rexford and the woman he's sent to rescue from Newgate for a murder she didn't commit. Rex knows this for sure because of what until now, he's always termed a burdensome family affliction for being able to tell truth from lies, as are all the males in his family. He sees true blue color for truth and red for lies. All the males have various "afflictions" as he calls it and the only one not to see it as a gift for good. It also causes him an added problem when he realizes how much Amanda means to him and he has always vowed never to marry and pass on the burden to anymore children. The story is beautifully written about the maturing and better understanding of himself and his talent, as well as the growth of the beautiful, mistreated and misaligned woman who is falling deeply in love with him. At the same time, he is responsible for solving the murder his beautiful Amanda is accused of and the short time he has to do it in. Full of desire, sexuality and a true blue love but without all of the graphic sex filled pages filling space in too many romance novels these days.I read a review complaining the truth telling was too paranormal for a romance novel. Personally, I loved it. A well written creative twist that fit right into this wonderfully, creative story filled with mystery, fun and a fantastically romantic love story! Bravo 'Mrs Metzger for such a creative mind, intrigue, great sub characters and a sensuality, sexy romance without wasting storyline for unwanted pages of sexual graphics or vulgarity! That's what keeps me coming back for more! Fantastic and not a wasted page.
